Somboon Krobteeranon, VISA’s manager for Myanmar and Thailand, said, “inbound tourism to Myanmar is growing in record numbers, and with 64 percent of international travelers preferring to pay by cards when traveling in Asia-Pacific, we are working with banks and the merchant community to meet their payment needs.”

VISA is expanding its payment network in Myanmar to over 1,000 retail locations before the Southeast Asian Games take place at the end of this year.

It is also working with Myanmar banks to introduce a mobile point-of-sale service.
