Apple authorises new retail shops in Yangon

The U.S multinational Apple has authorised a fourth electronic retail shop to be opened in the Junction Mawtin shopping mall in Yangon.

MDrive joins TAC Apple, which only opened in September 2012, as the only authorised Apple dealers in Myanmar.

“TAC Apple has opened one shop in Yangon and another shop in Mandalay. They are planning to open more shops. I heard that some have applied to open authorised shops. Some sold many brands and some only want to sell as authorised [Apple] dealers,” said Thaw Tint from TAC Apple.

As mobile phones and services become more affordable in Myanmar, Apple’s iPhone and iPad range of products are becoming popular consumer items, although Samsung and Huwei smartphones remain more affordable.

Despite new authorised dealerships, cheap replica devices from China are sold everywhere as Apple products remain out of most people’s price range.

“The Apple products are expensive here and there is no service centre. They have to sell them with promotions, installing built-in Myanmar font and give warranty like other brands,” commented an iPad user.
