Privately owned Kanbawza Bank will issue 10,000 SEA Games-themed debit cards to Myanmar and foreign nationals ahead of the upcoming sporting event, said the bank’s Vice Administrative Director Zaw Lin Htut.
The debit cards will be accepted by retail terminals and ATMs connected to the Myanmar Payment Union network, he said. They will carry the bank’s logo as well as the logo of the 27th SEA Games, which begin in Myanmar on December 11.
Customers will have to prepay a minimum of 100,000 kyats (about US$ 97) to receive a card. The cards will be valid for five years from the date issue.
Thet Ko Ko Myo , an Assistant Manager at the bank, said the Central Bank of Myanmar had given permission to KBZ to issue the cards to foreign visitors.
The bank began receiving applications for the cards on Monday and customers can start using them from 1 November, bank staff said.
