MPT plans to share its mobile phone towers

Myanmar Post and Telecommunications plans to share its mobile phone towers with other operators for a fee, its manager told Mizzima on December 5.

U Kyaw Soe Win said MPT planned to build more mobile phone for its own use and other domestic and international telecommunications operators would be able to use them.

“We will hire them to other operators,” U Kyaw Soe Win said, adding that MPT had sought expressions of interest from private companies to build the mobile phone towers.

The deadline for submitting the expressions of interest was December 2.

U Tun Tun Lin from Amara Communication, which is among the companies interested in building the towers, said that after submitting the expression of interest the MPT was expected to invite tenders for the work.

Myanmar has two domestic telecoms operators and two international operators, Telenor and Ooredoo.

MPT has said it wants to add four million mobile phone subscribers in the 2013-2014 fiscal year, another five million in each of the following two years.
