The Yangon Region government will start accepting applications in February for public rental housing for people who cannot afford to buy homes, according to Kyaw Soe, the regional minister for forestry and energy.
At the special session of the Yangon Region parliament yesterday, the regional minister replied to a question raised by Dr Nyo Nyo Thin, an MP from Bahan Township, about “measures for the public rental housing being developed by the regional government”.
The project will be implemented on a 12.534-acre plot at the corner of No 2 Main Road and Mahabandoola Road in Dagon Township. The Department of Human Settlement and Housing Development under the construction ministry provided the land for the project.
The regional government will accept the applications for public rental housing between February 1 and 15.
Applicants will be chosen at random if there are too many applicants. Applicants must submit their applications along with recommendations from their ward or village administrators, Kyaw Soe added.
A new tender has been opened to select a company to execute the project.
The Union government has made a contribution of Ks 20 billion to the development of the project. The project is to be completed during this fiscal year, according to its schedule. There are four months left before the end of this fiscal year.
