Local online retailer Shop.com.mm said it has racked up “unprecedented order numbers and sales figures” without releasing any actual sales figures.
The Rocket Internet-backed company claimed it got “as many orders as it does in three months during the Black Friday sale.”
The first ever Black Friday sales of Myanmar was launched in partnership with Ooredoo, Philips and Maybelline. The shopping period started at 12am on November 27.
Shop.com said more than 85,000 people tried to get the deals on offer and the top deals got sold out in less than an hour. The company offered deals on phones, TVs, fashion items and appliances.
The online retailer claimed it received 40 times more orders than on a regular shopping day.
More than 70 percent of the traffic came from mobile phones, according to Shop.com. While Yangon contributed the maximum share with 80 percent of the orders, Mandalay had 10 percent of orders followed by Naypitaw, Shan and Bago.
Thirty percent of these orders was delivered on November 27, Shop.com said.
Elin Torstensson, managing director of Shop.com.mm, said: “This is the first time in Myanmar when an e-commerce company has successfully done a campaign of this size and we are very happy with our performance.”
He said the company will arrange Black Friday again on Friday the 25th of November 2016.
