Myanmar Development Institute (MDI) was officially launched, with a workshop to announce its master plan at Nay Pyi Taw recently, according to Korea International Cooperation Agency-KOICA.
In collaboration with Korea Development Institute (KDI), KOICA is implementing the one of the flagship projects named ‘Establishment of MDI’ from 2014 to 2019 with 20 million USD.
MDI will play a role of national think-tank in Myanmar as it is a decision maker to plan national socioeconomic and country policy after its launching.
At the ceremony to unveil the signboard of the MDI to mark its official launching, Union Minister of Ministry of Science and Technology, Dr. Khin San Yi said, “With lots of expectation, we are glad to have a chance that Korea, which was the least developed country but have developed to one of OECD member in 30 years, share its development experiences.”
Korean Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, Mr. Lee Back-Soon remarks, “The active researches and its operation by both Myanmar government officials and representatives of MDI will lead success of MDI establishment, and I expect MDI supports the economic development in Myanmar.”
MDI Central Working Committee Chair, Dr. Zaw Oo, announced MDI master plan including its vision, promoting system and research subjects as a policy think-tank, and requested MDI Central Committee, composed by nine ministries, to bring sustainable support and discussion.
