THE Mandalay Convention Centre and Commercial Complex project is progressing as planned, with the soft opening slated for March, announced the construction company implementing the US$25 million project.
The Mandalay Convention Centre soft opening will take place on 23 March, said U Zin Min Swe, managing director of CAD Construction Co., which is implementing the project in cooperation with New Star Light Construction Co.
“Every country or city needs to have a convention centre,” added the managing director, saying the centre is necessary for celebrating special events and developing business networks.
The project is being implemented in three phases on the plot of land of 14.78-acres by the Mandalay City Development Committee and the Mandalay Investment & Development Group.
The first phase of the project is the construction of the Mandalay Convention Centre; the second phase includes the building of a commercial complex including hotels, offices, shopping centres and condominiums; and third phase includes arts and entertainment facilities, including an amusement park.
The project’s first phase is set for completion by this June, and the whole project is expected to be completed in 2019.
Upon completion, the over than 200,000-square-metre, four-storey convention centre will be used to host several seminars and conferences at the same time, said U Zin Min Swe, pointing out that only one event can be held at Mandalay City Hall at any given time.
The ground floor of the centre will serve as a venue for holding exhibitions, conference and seminars. It will feature one hall with a seating capacity of 4,500, a conference hall with a seating capacity of 264, plus several seminar rooms. The centre is also set to be fitted with six escalators and lifts that can carry vehicles for automobile shows.
