Myanmar Shwe Ying selected for Yangon traffic control system project

THE Myanmar Shwe Ying Company has been selected to implement a project that includes the establishment of a control centre and the upgrading Yangon’s traffic lights with CCTV cameras, said Saw Tun Mya Aung, Kayin ethnic affairs minister of Yangon Region government.
According to the regional minister, who is also the chair of the tender evaluation committee, Myanmar Shwe Ying Company was chosen from among four finalists for tender in accord with the decision of all the members of Yangon Region government.
“We made our final decision based on the project presentations of four finalists,” said the chair.
According to tender evaluation committee, the company will implement the project of fitting traffic lights with CCTV cameras and building a control tower in cooperation with China Railway Construction Company (CRCC).
The committee said that the tender winning company pledged to replace damaged street traffic items with new ones within three years and provide free service for five years. The project is scheduled to be fully completed within six months and a late fine of K100, 000 for each day is also set, added the committee.
According to sources, a budget of K20 billion is set to implement the project, and the company won the tender for implementation of the project with the budget of K18.9billion. The tender winning company began project operation following the signing of an agreement with the Yangon region government on 2 February.
According to the project, 154 of 192 traffic lights in Yangon will be fitted with CCTV cameras which are linked to the Centre set to be built in an area of People’s Square in Yangon which is aimed at monitoring congested spots and the violation of traffic rules.
