YCDC opens complaints section

Any complaints? Yangon City Development Committee has opened up a special department for you. As of March 4, any of Yangon’s 5.21 million citizens can come to City Hall to pick a bone with the administration.

Committee member U Khin Maung Tint told The Myanmar Times the idea was to bring people with problems directly to the notice of those responsible.

“We created the department to settle disputes between the people and YCDC officials as promptly as possible,” he said. “Not many people know about this.”

The elected members of the committee will be on hand to receive complaints on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, from 9:30am to 4:30pm, backed up by officials from the markets, engineering (roads and bridges), engineering (water and sanitation), engineering (buildings), city planning and land administration departments, as well as the city’s legal advisers.

YCDC is responsible for almost all the services required by residents of 33 of Yangon Region’s 45 townships, covering an area of 306 square miles (793 square kilometres), according to the 2014 census.

“We welcome the opening of the department. We never used to know who to complain to. We have complaints about YCDC all the time,” said Ko Nyi Oo, who sells electronic apparatus on Anawrahta Road.
