MPPE plans to map illegal fuel shops in Mandalay

The Myanmar Petroleum Products Enterprise under the Ministry of Energy is planning to map the locations of illegal fuel shops in Mandalay Region and submit the chart to the headquarters and the regional government.

The enterprise has carried out the mapping of the illegal fuel shops opened along the routes it takes when inspecting official stations.

There are some 10 illegal shops in Kyaukpadan township alone, with an official saying that the shops have been told to apply for licences.

According to the inspection team, there are 425 licensed private fuel stations in the whole region.  Licences expire after six months and can be renewed on expiry. Fuel stations that fail to follow rules and regulations are liable to temporary closure.  Currently, inspection teams have been instructed to keep tight control over illegal fuel shops as part of fire security.
