Continental Shipping begins Yangon feeder service

Continental Shipping Lines (CSLPL) announced the commencement of their feeder service from Yangon directly to Colombo yesterday.

This is the first time that a direct cargo link has been established between Colombo and Yangon opening a new opportunity for Sri Lanka exports to explore this market, SAR Maritime Agencies Limited General Manager Ruby Dole said.

The ship “PATHEIN STAR” with a capacity of 1468 TEU could also accommodate large cargo as well as small parcels giving opportunity more for cargo and logistics sector. “This service, while no doubt will boost the volumes handling in the Colombo port, will also serve the main line operators (mlo’s) with a speedy connection via Colombo to Europe and East Coast of India.”

Continental Shipping Line is the largest private ship owning company and also owns a container terminal in close proximity to Yangon which is now the base of CSL’s operations.The company’s growth is backed by the rapid expansion of trade that Myanmar has been enjoying in recent times.
