Myanmar’s Customs Department will install the new Myanmar Automated Cargo Clearance System (MACCS) at airports, port terminals and at the Thilawa Special Economic Zone in November this year, it has been learned.
Plans are also underway to install the MACCS at cross-border areas after his new programme is successfully implemented within Yangon Region.
With the purpose of developing and improving customs import and export clearance processes, the system is being implemented by the Customs Department with financial assistance provided by the Japanese government.
The department will offer training courses in the use of MACCS to operators from private sector between May and June with plans to allow 800 custom data service providers to join the courses.
The new system will help reduce the time goods spent in the cargo clearance process, U Maung Maung Htwe, deputy director (Tech/IT) from the department said.—Chan Chan
