The Yangon Region government will allot Ks 1 billion to improve drainage systems in 13 townships, including six downtown townships.
MP Than Naing Oo from Pabedan Township said: “Our township administrator told me that Ks 1 billion will be allotted to install working drainage systems in 13 townships. The government will allot money to flooded townships like Ahlone and Thingangyun, in addition to six downtown townships.”
“Now, drainage channels are blocked with silt. We need to clear it all,” he added.
Many townships in Yangon face flooding every rainy season because drainage channels are blocked with garbage. Last year, the regional government spent Ks 14 billion on the clearing of drainage channels.
On May 5, experts pointed out that Yangon is in need of a master plan for its drainage systems, saying foreign experts should be involved in the project.
