Yangon-Singapore flights to increase

According to two airline companies offering Yangon-Singapore flights, more flights between the two locations will be scheduled once the visa-on-arrival system takes effect in December.

There currently are seven airlines flying the Yangon-Singapore route: Singapore Airlines, Silk Air, Jet Star, Myanmar Airways International (MAI), Myanmar National Airlines and Air Asia.

According to Singapore Airlines and MAI personnel, the two airlines have plans to raise the number of flights to Singapore from Yangon and Mandalay.

“Right now, we have 10 Yangon-Singapore flights per week, but starting in December, we will be increasing daily flights to twice per day to offer as many as 14 flights per week,” said assistant general manager Aye Mara Thar from MAI.

Singapore is the most recent among ASEAN countries to establish an open visa relationship with Myanmar. Even before the free visa announcement, Singapore had a generous policy to allow visitors long stays within the country.

Malaysia is the only remaining ASEAN nation without an open visa pact with Myanmar.
