CLMVT Forum discusses single visa system

Participants at the CLMVT Forum 2016 discussed matters related to the adoption of a single visa for Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam and Thailand, said Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism Ohn Maung in a press conference on the forum on Sunday.

The forum took place in Bangkok, Thailand, from June 16 to 18.

“The forum focused on the adoption of a single visa for people from the CLMVT countries so they can travel with a single visa. [It also focused on] the emergence of a free border mechanism, the launch of green season visits outside the travel season and the development of community-based tourism so as to create jobs in poor villages and improve the incomes of local people,” said the minister.

The participants at the forum also discussed further strengthening cooperation between the CLMVT countries in trade, investment and tourism.

The Myanmar delegation, led by Union Minister Ohn Maung, met Thai Minister for Tourism and Sports Kotkarn Wattanarrangkuk and discussed holding annual coordination meetings according to an agreement between the two countries on the promotion of bilateral tourism, cooperation in human resource development, extension of travel destinations between the two countries and better border crossing procedures.
