Thahara Announces Entry into the Myanmar Online Travel Agency Market

YANGON, Myanmar, July 7, 2016 /PRNewswire-iReach/ — Thahara, Myanmar’s pioneer in offering unique hotel and travel experiences, today announced its entry into Myanmar’s online travel agency market.

The new Thahara arm is the first specialized boutique hotel online travel platform to solely focus on Myanmar.

The Thahara platform is marketing a handpicked range of some of the country’s smaller boutique hotels at different price points.

Thahara clients can book directly online at the most competitive rates available and, as a standard policy, Thahara will match any lower rate found.

Thahara is responding to growing frustration with the large online agencies that offer thousands of standard-style hotels. “It’s not easy for visitors, wanting something special, to find the right hotel that matches what they are looking for,” explained Mark von Sponeck, Thahara’s general manager.

“Our properties are small and intimate, allowing us to offer a genuinely personal experience.”

“Whether it’s a budget or a luxury price point, we only market hotels that pass our ‘Thahara Test'”. We spend time with the owners or hosts, we try the beds, we taste the food. We experience the experience travelers can expect!”

Yangon-based Thahara is starting by marketing 19 properties in more than 10 top destinations in Myanmar. In addition to handpicked hotels that meet the Thahara Test, Thahara is also marketing the Thahara Heritage boutique hotel out on Inle lake and the Thahara farmhouse in Pindaya.

Thahara is marketing boutique hotels in mainstream destinations, like the Bayview Hotel in Ngapali and Thanakha Inle Hotel in Nyaung Shwe/Inle Lake but also newer popular destinations like The Mrauk Oo Princess Resort in Mrauk U, Rakhine state, and the Hpa-An Lodge in Hpa-An, Karen state.

Over the next year, Thahara will add new properties and destinations including some off the current tourist trail. “As the Ministry of Hotel and Tourism authorizes new destinations for visitors to explore and as more boutique hotels open, we will add to the platform,” said Mr. von Sponeck.

This means travelers can put together more personal itineraries. “For example, instead of only going from Mandalay to Pyin Oo Lwin, to see the incredible botanical gardens, coffee and strawberry plantations, why not continue to the “valley of rubies” and see the town of Mogok, where the world’s finest rubies and most beautiful sapphires come from,” he added.
