Over 40 tonnes of coffee produced from Ywar Ngan Township are to be exported to Taipei and South Korea, according to the Ywar Ngan Coffee Association. The coffee received 87 out of 100 marks for it’s quality, color, fragrance and taste.
“Currently, 18 tonnes has been exported to Taipei. Samples of coffee have been already introduced to South Korea. South Korean merchants will hold talks with Ywar Ngan coffee association concerning the purchase of coffee in early August,” said U Win Aung Kyaw, the chairman of this association.
The export price to Taipei is US$3,400 per tonne. Taipei has been offered to make another order again. The Ywar Ngan coffee has been offered US$3,600 per tonne as a minimum at the world coffee market.
Currently, the said coffee association is attempting to identify its coffee as a product of Ywar Ngan area because Thailand, Malaysia and China are reported to be establishing factories and purchasing Ywar Ngan coffee.
This year, seven tonnes of coffee have been sold to America. Ywar Ngan coffee association has made contact with Japanese coffee companies to open business links.—200
