ONLY applicants who have never been involved in land disputes have been granted leases of land for 10 years or 30 years in accordance with Upper Myanmar Land and Tax regulations and Lower Myanmar Town and Villages regulations, Deputy Minister for Home Affairs Maj-Gen Aung Soe told the Amyotha Hluttaw yesterday.
Respective district commissioners have issued 10-year and 30-year land grants depending on the condition of the building on the land of the applicant, added the deputy minister, while responding to a question about land grants to be issued in some wards of Mawlamyine, Mon State.
The deputy minister pointed out that complaints over land ownership may arise if land grants are issued to those who currently live in the wards as land plots were granted by lot and no ownership documents were issued at that time when residential land plots were allowed to locals.
A parliamentary discussion on an anti-narcotics proposal followed, with lawmakers expressing broad support for the launch of a nationwide campaign to fight drug abuse, illicit trafficking and the establishment of drug rehabilitation centres in addition to awareness campaigns. The Pyithu Hluttaw then approved the proposal submitted by U Sai Wun Hlaing Kham of Shan State Constituency 3.
