High-rise car parking and hotels to be built on Myanma Railway land

HIGH-rise car parking and hotel projects in Yangon will be implemented on the land belonging to Myanma Railway, it has been learned.

Due to a scarcity of available land in Yangon City, a number of development projects will be conducted on the grounds of the Kyimyindine and Pazundaung railway stations which are owned by Myanma Railway, according to the Yangon Regional government.

Although buildings are slated to be built on Myanma Railway property, the authorities concerned are also eyeing vacant land owned by other ministries. However, no projects will take place on the land owned by the Yangon City Development Committee, said an official from the Yangon Transport Authority. Further details regarding the deals being made between developers, Myanma Railway and the various ministries concerned have not been forthcoming.

The car park at Pazundaung railway station can accommodate approximately 1,000 cars and Kyimyindine station over 5,000, according to the project companies. A hotel zone, staff housing apartments, a shopping centre and a play-ground will also be built.
