Gov’t Calls Tender to Restore Mined Areas

The government has called a tender for companies to help reduce the environmental impacts caused by jade mining in Lone Khin and Hpakant region, according to the Myanma Gems Enterprise.

Following the government’s decision to stop giving jade mining licences, the authorities mulled getting help from firms that can manage the environmental impact recovery process in the areas of Hpakant, Lone Khin, Monghsu and Khamti.

“We called the tender to recover the environmental damage. Based on our plan, we will work on environmental conservation. We can’t say for sure how long it will take to restore the environment. That will depend on the tender winner’s plan,” Deputy Director of Myanma Gems Enterprise, U Thet Khaing, said.

Candidates must conduct field studies in the targeted areas and draft project plans for their tender submission. The candidates have to complete the field study before September 1, according to a news release of the Ministry. Detailed plans must be submitted before September 15, it noted.

The tender selection committee includes mining experts and ministry officials, who will select the winner based on financial costs and the proposed plan.
