British Chamber Launches Business Program to Entice UK Firms to Myanmar

The British Chamber of Commerce has launched a variety of business services to help attract British businesses to enter the Myanmar market.

Some of the more prominent services the chamber is offering include business matching, market visits, trade missionsand bespoke events where businesses can showcase their products and services.

With Myanmar considered one of the last frontiers for business, the chamber is keen to bring in foreign business.

The BCCM works closely with the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI) to perform many of the aforementioned tasks and identify investment opportunities for companies here and abroad.

“The British Chamber plays a significant role in attracting trade and investment in Myanmar. There are already a number of successful partnerships between UK and Myanmar businesses,” U Win Aung, chairman of UMFCCI, said.

“I am encouraged to hear that the British Chamber is now offering British companies market entry services. I believe that this will attract more British businesses to Myanmar and further enhance the existing bilateral economic cooperation between our two countries for mutual benefit.”

Carl Emerson, technical and project support manager of British mining heavy machinery manufacturer, MMD, said his firm is eager to expand to Myanmar and has begun to research the market opportunity and potential agents, distributors and customers for its products.

“The Chamber provided us with an excellent, targeted market visit program which opened up opportunities for us which we would not have been able to access otherwise. The service was very good value for money and has informed our company’s market entry strategy,” he said.

The British Chamber of Commerce works with more than 190 partner companies including businesses from the UK, Myanmar, European Union and ASEAN. Membership to the British Chamber can be found online at britishchambermyanmar.com.
