Accommodation facilities for tourists grow to 1,371 nationwide

The number of hotels and guest houses nationwide as of the end of August this year reached 1,371, with 53,716 rooms, according to official figures released by the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism.

The ministry erased some mrestrictions on issuing licenses to investors in order to establish hotels and other development facilities across the nation with a goal of providing better services for both local and foreign visitors.

Licenses have been issued to tour operators, tour guides and related applicants by the ministry. By the end of last month, the ministry had granted a total of 2,263 licenses to tour operators, over 1,500 transport licenses and over 6,000 tour guide licenses.

The country’s tourism industry has a bright future, experts said. The sector receives increasingly greater interest from both local and international investors.

Since 2011, the country has seen a massive influx of tourists year on year. It hosted over 4.6 million foreign visitors last fiscal year. That figure increased by 52 per cent compared with 2014.

Tourist arrivals between April and at the end of July this year reached 2.45 million. The number is 4 per cent more than the same period last year.

The ministry estimates that international tourist arrivals in the country are likely to reach over 7 millions by 2020.
