The Ministry of Hotel and Tourism (MHT) is upgrading its tour guide license, which now can be used nationwide for those with over three years of experience in the tourism industry, it is learnt from U Tint Thwin, deputy director of MHT.
The tourist guides who have over three years experience in tourism and who pass an exam will be listed by the ministry of hotel and tourism and be issued licenses which can be used across the country, it is learnt.
In addition, the ministry will support expert teachers who can provide guidance to those who will sit the exam. There will be two examination centers. One each in Yangon and Mandalay.
There are presently about 4,000 nationwide tourist guide licenses, and over 2,700 local licenses. Among the 2,700 tourist guides, those who have more than three years experience can sit the exam and, if they pass the test satisfactorily, they will receive a tourist guide license that can be used across the country.
