Tenders have been called for the construction of a new Ayeyawady Region Hluttaw, estimated to cost K6 billion, Myitmakha News Agency has been told by the director-general’s office of the current Hluttaw.
Interested parties reportedly have just two days, between September 14-15, in which to submit an application bid for tender which must include a design and expenses in detail.
“The decision to call tenders for the building’s design was made during a meeting on September 5. The project will start to be implemented with approval of central government with a regional government budget of K2.8 billion,” said U Aung Kyaw Khine, speaker of the Ayeyawady Region Hluttaw. The acceptance of bids for tender was announced on September 10, while applications will reportedly be scrutinized by a 28-member Hluttaw Construction Committee, headed by the speaker of Hluttaw.
The building project will reportedly include construction of the central Hluttaw building, the parliamentary chamber, overnight accommodation for Hluttaw MPs and housing for Hluttaw staff. According to a statement by U Htun Min Zaw, director general of the Ayeyawady Region Hluttaw, the Hluttaw will be constructed on a 12.6 acre plot of land within the current housing compound of Ayeyawady regional government ministers, located in Pathein, the region’s capital.
The Myanmar Architects’ Association will aid in selecting a successful bidder, while the tender process will reportedly be conducted in a transparent manner with a detailed expenses budget to be calculated.
