GUITAR manufacturers in Mandalay, Sagaing and Yangon are struggling to compete with imported brands from China, according to local entrepreneurs.
The quality of guitars produced locally is better than the imported ones, but are more expensive, merchants said.
The price of a guitar made in Myanmar has steadily increased due to a higher labour wages. Currently, local craftsmen will sell a guitar anywhere from K20,000 to K200,000 in the domestic market, while Chinese brands have been sold at about K100,000 per guitar.
The country needs to produce related accessories for the sustainable development of local guitar industry, local guitar makers said. The market competition between the local manufacturers and Chinese producers is not so heated at present, but there will be stiff competition in the future, predicted U Zaw Naung Hein, the owner of Hein Min Guitar Production Firm in Minsan Ward in Sagaing Region.—Myitmakha News Agency
