Since its initiation in December 2015, the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism has issued a total of 312 outbound tour licenses to operators within the past nine months, said its spokesperson.
The country’s tourism industry has received greater interest from investors thanks to the country’s economic reforms.
To promote the country’s tourism industry, the ministry launched the online system for issuing four kinds of licenses concerning travel business in the first week of July including licenses for hotels and guests houses, travelling, tour guides and transportation related to tourism.
Under the existing law, anyone who carries out the travel services without permission from the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism shall face up to a K50,000 fine or a three-year jail term or both. 312 outbound tour licenses issued by MoHT over past nine months
By the end of August, the ministry permitted nearly 1,600 transport licenses, almost 4,000 tour guide licenses and 2,705 local tour guide licenses.
The country received over 4.6 million international visitors last fiscal year. It has increased by 52 per cent compared with 2014. The ministry estimates that the number will increase to 5.5 million this FY.
International tourist arrivals in Myanmar are likely to reach over 7 million by 2020, according to the ministry.
