The upgrading of the Yangon circular train will cost US$301.29 billion, which will come from the government budget and from a loan from Japan, according to the Myanma Railway (MR).
The project will consist of appropriate departments building an urban train foundation path, railways, bridges, fences, pedestrian overpasses and pavements and purchasing new carriages.
“They will carry out the Yangon circular train upgrading project with government budget and Japan loan. The authorities will buy 66 (Deisel Electric Multiple Use (DEMU) carriages with US$206 billion of Japan loan,” said U Tun Aung Thin, general manager of Myanma Railway (Lower Myanmar).
Myanmar Railway has cooperated with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) since 2015. The project is expected to take about six years starting in 2017.
