Yangon govt to import motorcycles for traffic police

The Yangon Region government will import 100 motorcycles for traffic police in an effort to alleviate traffic congestion in Yangon Region, said Police Lt-Col Aung Ko from the No 2 Traffic Police Force in Yangon.

The Yangon Region government has put the purchase of up to 220 traffic police motorcycles out to tender. The authorities hope the newly equipped traffic police will clear traffic congestion and take action against traffic rule violations.

The first phase of the project will include the import of just 100 of the motorcycles.

“Upon the completion of the Traffic Control Centre, the Yangon Region chief minister ordered the purchase of 100 traffic police motorcycles. Actually, we must buy 220 motorcycles. Currently, we will be importing 100 motorcycles. We will carry out traffic clearance at heavily congested locations, make surprise checks and take action against violators,” said Police Lt-Col Aung Ko Oo.

The Yangon Region government will purchase the traffic police motorcycles using the Traffic Rule Enforcement Committee fund.
