400,000 holidaymakers expected to visit Chaungtha next year

Tourist arrivals to Chaungtha, a beach resort in Ayeyawady Region, is expected to reach over 400,000 next year, according to the Chaungtha Zone Hoteliers Association.

Chaungtha Beach is a popular resort and one of the top tourist attractions in Myanmar. It is about 5 hours drive from the commercial capital of Yangon.

The Chaungtha Zone Hoteliers Association put forth concerted efforts to attract more visitors by implementing effective environmental conservation programmes to sustain the natural beauty of the beach in cooperation with the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism and relevant organisations.

Practicing good sanitation conditions along the beach and sustainable development of the beach resort top the association’s list of priorities to increase the number of visitors from home and abroad, officials said.

The hoteliers association plans to send its report relating to the development of the beach to the Union government, respective ministry and experts to seek their advice.

A member of the association said the resort needs to develop more hotel facilities, as the beach area has seen an increasing number of holidaymakers year by year because of the beautiful landscapes.

Discussions with responsible persons to expand the hotel zone will be made in the future, the association said.
Plans are also underway to reduce accommodation costs and reset reasonable charges for domestic visitors.

According to the association, about 25 hotels and over 50 registered guest houses with a total of about 1,800 rooms have been developed in the beach resort.
