According to the market places division of the Yangon City Development Council (YCDC), the fire-damaged Mingalar Market will be demolished within two months.
Akari Phoo was awarded the tender for the demolition with a timeframe of 60 days.
“The process has begun. The reconstruction will be announced at a later date,” said an official from the YCDC.
Mingalar, a popular market place close to the heart of Yangon, has had two major fires with the most recent damaging more than 1,650 shops and stalls along with their goods.
Businesses were given temporary stalls at the nearby New Shwe Mingalar Market but complain that trade has fallen.
YCDC has promised the public that the new Mingalar Market would be advanced and safe.
