The Myanmar Automated Cargo Clearance System (MACCS) is planned for use in border trade camps by 2018, according to the Customs Department.
To facilitate trade, MACCS was launched at international ports, Yangon Airport International Cargo Terminal and Thilawa Special Economic Zone operations starting on 12thNovember. This will now be extended to border areas. The automated system will replace the time-consuming manual processes. Exporters, importers, customs officials and other government agency representatives will be able to access MACCS through the internet, saving time and transportation costs. A faster custom procedure can make trading more effective, an official from the department said. Japan International Corporation Agency (JICA) initially provided over 3,990 million yen and technical assistance for MACCS, while Myanmar government spent Ks 5,700million, it is learnt.
