Illegal foreign workers in construction sites to be scrutinized

Illegal foreign workers in Yangon construction sites will be inspected by regional authorities, said Yangon Regional Hluttaw Pabedan township Constituency 1 representative U Than Naing Oo. The inspection team will be formed with officials from regional Hluttaw and Yangon City Development Committee (YCDC). A list of construction sites will be request from YCDC, it is learnt.

The representative of Kyauktada township from Yangon Regional Hluttaw will be the first to inspect Yangon construction sites in cooperation with YCDC.

“We will start the inspection next week. We will request the YCDC to give us the list of construction sites. We will also inform the township administrative office before we inspect the construction sites,” said Yangon Regional Hluttaw Pabedan township Constituency1 representative U Than Naing Oo. “We will check their visa type, then, we will issue a notice to them and launch an inquiry before action is taken”, he said.

U Than Naing Oo added that taxes are not being collected from those illegal foreign workers. Also, illegal foreign workers often receive a higher salary than local staff.
