Bidding to be Opened Soon on Bus Supply for BRT Lite

The Yangon Bus Public Company is reportedly planning to buy 100 more buses in BRT (bus rapid transport system) and tenders will be invited in the third week of November.
The buses have to be made in Korea and slated to arrive in December. The invitation to tender to purchase about 100 buses will be issued soon. With more buses arriving, phase three will remain unchanged, said Dr. Maung Aung, the chair of Yangon Bus Public Company.
Currently, the buses in the BRT Lite system are running three routes using a fleet of 65 buses imported from foreign countries, it is learnt. There are a total of about 2.6 million commuters daily in Yangon and about 100 passengers take each BRT bus a day. The BRT Lite system aims to reduce traffic congestion by providing safe and comfortable public transport. The BRT charges a flat rate of Ks300 per ride. Customers may buy pre-paid cards at ticket centres which have been opened in Botahtaung, Myaynigon, Hledan, Wireless Market, Eight Miles, Htaukkyant, Thamine and Kokkai between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.daily.
