Myanmar Automated Cargo Clearance System (MACCS) was launched on 12th November at international ports and Yangon Airport International Cargo Terminal. Thilawa Special Economic Zone is reported to have had some implementation problems, importers and exporters said.
The system was found to have server outages and other system errors, resulting in difficulties for containers to load and unload.
MACCS was designed to help to deal with delays in container handling operations, but has encountered start-up problems. In addition to the internet connection problem, the staff are not used to the automated system yet, officials said. These problems need to be solved as soon as possible, said an official from vehicles importers and distributors association.
The MACCS system was launched with the assistance of the Japanese government to ensure the smooth flow of import and export processes. The system is planned to be expanded up to border trade camps, bur only if the system is successful.
