Mandalay: 107 restaurants and a hotel fined for not having stamp duty

The Internal Revenue Department fined the owners of 107 restaurants and a hotel who failed to bear the stamp duty in their sale vouchers in Mandalay for the period from April to September, 2016, said U Kyaw Aung Moe, Assistant Director of Regional Internal Revenue Department.

“It is not our country alone that assesses taxes—every country imposes the taxes. Some pay taxes but some fail to do so. Only when the taxpayers are dutiful can the government earn its revenue. But there are some businessmen who fail to pay the taxes,” he added.

The Internal Revenue Department will fine Ks0.2 million for the first offense, Ks0.5 million for the second offense and Ks1 million for the third offense. The department planned to add another Ks1 million for every incidence of failure to pay.

“The department is conducting the awareness training courses in the township. The businessmen from hotels ask their staff to attend the training courses. Actually, every businessman needs to participate in the training course,” he added.
