Foreign Travelers keen on Going to Chin and Shan States

YANGON – Foreign visitors are keen on going to Chin and Shan states rather than other regions such as Bagan, Taunggyi, Inle and Mandalay, which were previously the more popular tourist destinations, says Phyo Wai Yazar from All Asia Exclusive Travel @ Tour Co Ltd.

During December, the number of tourist arrivals in hilly and coastal regions increased, according to the tour agencies.

“The foreign travelers are now interested to go to Chin and Shan States with the aim to enjoy natural scenes. We already received tour programs into the visit of hilly regions,” said Phyo Wai Yazar.

“As a sea program, foreigners have to go Mandalay-Bagan-Magway-Pyi regions by riding a cruise liner. More foreigners visiting Myanmar by cruise ships came from U.S and Britain. As for the sea program, only foreign travelers are taking a cruise down the rivers. But, as for hilly tour program, they have to go Shan, Rakhine and Chin States to enjoy natural scenes and to observe the lifestyle and customs of national races. However, there is no tour program yet for going to the snow-capped mountains due to bad weather,” said one of the tourist guides.

In Chin State, Natmataung National Park and Bontalar waterfall are now attracting foreign visitors. Moreover, Chin State has other tourist destinations – places such as Shar Lome Moat, Khonumtung (Mount Victoria), 10,500 feet high, which is the highest peak in Chin State, and Reh Lake which is a heart-shaped lake in Teddim region.
