Malaysia-based Tan Chong Motor Co Ltd, which has been given the all-clear to make and sell Nissan cars in Myanmar, says it is planning to manufacture around 500 per year.
“The new ‘Sunny Sedan’ is the first to be manufactured in Myanmar. The process is running now,” said a company spokesperson.
The car has a 1.5-litre engine with a four-speed automatic version and prices ranging from US$15,000 to US$18,000 with about 150 cars sold in advance.
The Malaysian company granted official dealer status to three domestic companies: United Diamond Motor Co Ltd in Yangon, Pacific Alliance Motor Co Ltd in Mandalay and Shwe Sagaing Motor Services Co Ltd in Sagaing.
The company said it had a factory in Hlaingthayar Township and it was building its first full manufacturing factory in Bago with production due to start next year.
