Senior officials of the Quezon City government and the Yangon City Development Committee witnessed ceremony held at the Bulwagang Amoranto of Quezon City Hall.
Ambassador Emil Fernandez, chief of the Office for Asia and Pacific Affairs of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), also witnessed the signing.
“This is a historic day for both our cities since the agreement signing happens to fall on the eve of the Golden Anniversary of the ASEAN,” Mayor Bautista said.
“The prospect of ASEAN economic integration looks bright for both our people through this exercise. Our commonalities in terms of colonial and economic experiences will make our integration and business dealings much easier,” the Mayor said.
Mayor Bautista later presented the Yangon mayor a symbolic key to Quezon City as a token of appreciation for his goodwill visit to the city.
For his part, Mayor Soe described Yangon City’s partnership with Quezon City as the first step for the development of both cities and shall serve as a venue for the opening up of various avenues for learning and experience to both parties.
Before the formal forging of the sister-cities pact, officials of the Yangon City Development Committee visited City Hall where senior officials briefed them on the best governance practices that Quezon City has adopted in the areas of ease of doing business, solid waste management and pollution control, disaster risk reduction and management and traffic management.
