Myanmar, Finland Hold Discussions on Bilateral Cooperation

State Counsellor and Minister of Foreign Affairs Aung San Suu Kyi met last Thursday with Finland’s Foreign Trade and Development Minister Kai Mykkanen in Nay Pyi Taw for discussions on bilateral cooperation.

Myanmar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the topics discussed covered manufacturing value-added forest products and natural resources, education and vocational training as well as Myanmar’s peace and national reconciliation process.

Kai Mykkanen arrived in Myanmar last Wednesday for a three-day visit, leading a delegation made up of representatives from the private sector specialising in clean technology, energy, ICT, digitalization and education.

The visit aimed to support the new government’s reforms to promote human rights and to strengthen economic relations between the two countries, according to Finland’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs.

Finland cut ties with Myanmar amid a brutal army crackdown against protestors in 1988 but resumed relations after U Thein Sein’s reformist government came to power.
