Yangon Region’s government is making surveys to build a deep seaport, chief minister Phyo Min Thein announced on February 25.
“The transport network in Yangon Region is important. It faces the sea but we cannot make the use of it. So we are conducting a survey to build a deep seaport. All harbours in Yangon are on the Yangon River. Big ships cannot enter the river. We have to bring cargo via Singapore using smaller ships. So transport costs are high. That’s why we want to build a deep seaport,” said the chief minister.
