Developers in Mandalay are planning to build a commodity exchange centre for businesses trading in fruit, flowers and vegetables. Local company Shwe Moe Group is behind the plans, and will receive with help from the Myanmar Fruit, Flower and Vegetable Producer and Exporter Association (MFFVPEA).
The project aims to group all of Mandalay’s vendors and wholesalers of fruit, flowers and vegetables in one place to ease waste management issues, traffic jams and to create better price control and job opportunities for locals.
“We started measuring the land last month but at this stage it is too early to put a date on building completion,” said U Kyaw Thu, secretary of the MFF-PVPEA. The three story building, located in Mandalay’s Amarapura township, will include modern storage, car parking, wholesale space and 100 residential apartments, said U Kyaw Thu.
“It was originally expected that cool storage would be added in phase one of the project, but actually, cool storage will be added in phase two,” said U Kyaw Thu.
