Local games developer My Play has taken on 300,000 new subscribers in the past few months, bringing the total to 900,000.
The surge in demand for the company’s games is fuelled by a growing base of tech-hungry consumers who are still relatively new to the world of high-speed internet.
Fans of My Play’s mobile games have been spoiled for choice lately with the local developer pushing out a number of popular titles, which has seen it amass 20,000 daily users, a report released by the company said.
Late last year, My Play announced it had hit 600,000 subscribers, an increase 400,000 from 2015 which means My Play’s most recent subscriber figures show even stronger growth.
“We are going to introduce a full version of Rage of Rama and Lamadaw Phoe Toke in 2017,” Sai Pyi Phyo Han, operations manager of MyPlay, told Myanmar Business Today.
The games were built to include features and maps which represent colonial era Yangon and Mandalay, he said.
While My Play’s games all have a distinctly Myanmar flavour, that hasn’t stopped the developer from catching the attention of gamers outside of Myanmar.
Last September, My Play took home the special jury major prize from the Tokyo Game Show for the character Trishaw Nga Pain, who plays a central role in the game Nga Pain’s Thingyan.
“I have experience playing both foreign games and Myanmar games so I hope that Myanmar games will continue to develop,” said Ko Wai Lin Aung, an active gamer.
My Play was formed out of Total Gameplay Studio in 2013, entering the market with Sea Game Chilone. The developer has a number of popular titles including Myanmar Situyin, Pawthoot and Nga Pain Thingyan in its catalogue.
