Thai Border Trade Tops $1.1b


Cross-border trade with Thailand exceeded US$1.13 billion this financial year until February 17, according to the Ministry of Commerce.

Myanmar imported more than US$870 million worth of goods from Thailand and exported just US$250 million, it said.

Myanmar trades with Thailand mainly through the Tarchilek border in Shan State, Myawaddy in Kayin State and others in Tanintharyi Region and Kayah State.

During the period, most trade went through the Myawaddy and Myeik borders with US$774 million in imports and US$174 million in exports.

Myanmar is planning more trade centres with China and Thailand to boost business.

A Mongla trade hub is planned for the Chinese border trade and the Three-Pagodas Pass and Ponpargyin are also under way along the Thai frontier.
