Taninthayi Region government has not invited tenders for the land clearing operation at Dawei Airport as the budget.
A local company in Taninthayi Region was allowed to run the operation by using a surplus budget of Taninthayi Region government.
Taninthayi Region Chief Dr. Lei Lei Maw ordered that the bushes be cleared within the airport compound as they distorted the physical appearance of the airport and young people hid in the bushes to use drugs.
According to Taninthayi Region Government Planning and Finance Minister Phyo Win Tun, two airplanes crashed last year due to the bushes.
On March 12, the owners of local construction companies held a press conference calling for transparent tender invitations within Taninthayi Region.
