An international exhibition of Myanmar gems with foreign and domestic companies is being held in Yangon until Monday.
Firms from Thailand, Hong Kong, China, Japan, Vietnam, Germany, the United States, Italy, Israel and India are participating.
The four-day event also has machines for goldsmiths and quality testing for diamonds and gems.
A spokesperson for the organiser Asia Connect said: “The event shows technologies of America and Germany for handling finished products of gems and various stones, including rubies, sapphires, pearls and jade.”
Tun Hla Aung, Secretary of the Myanmar Gems Business Association, said: “The event shows both domestic and international items – jewellery from other countries, diamonds, [plus] goldsmiths and silversmiths, and other technology is displayed at the show.”
The Myanmar Gems Business Association and Ministry of Resources and Natural Environment Preservation are processing licences for foreign gem companies so they can sell their wares in the local market.
