At that meeting, U Than Naing Oo, Hluttaw Representative from Pabedan Constituency 1, asked whether there was a plan to classify which type of gambling machines are illegal at the gaming shops in Yangon Region and whether any action will be taken against offenders.
“Yangon City Development Committee allows only gaming machines which are imported with the certificate from the Ministry of Commerce to operate. Inspections are made depending on the recommendations by ward administrators, the police force and the township General Administration Department,” said U Maung Maung Soe.
A business license is granted only after an inspection and after recommendations from relevant departments have been obtained, he added.
The regional cabinet has stopped issuing new licenses since December 2014 and it is renewing the existing licenses of 43 shops every year.
Renewals are only approved after officers have checked that the gaming machines are allowed by relevant organizations or not, whether they are causing a public nuisance and whether they are in line with license regulations or not.
