China’s Ankai to build factory in Myanmar

The Yangon Region Transport Authority (YRTA) said that Chinese automotive manufacturing company Ankai has expressed an interest in building factories to assemble automobiles in Myanmar. YRTA Secretary Dr. Maung Aung said Ankai is interested in purchasing parts from other countries and assembling them in Myanmar.

To reduce traffic in Yangon, the Yangon Region Government abolished the Ma Hta Tha bus system and replaced it with the YBS system on 16 January this year. The government has purchased city buses from Ankai to use on the new YBS bus routes and has also purchased school buses from Ankai for use in the new school bus system.

Apart from Ankai, Korean company Daewoo, Japanese and Singaporean automotive companies have also expressed an interest to build similar companies in Myanmar.
