State owned telco MPT has begun rolling out its new Long Term Evolution network in Myanmar’s largest cities, which, the company says, can be up to twice as fast as traditional 4G/LTE networks.
Known as LTE+, the new network will enable download and uploads on mobile devices up to 10 times faster than a standard 3G network, an update from the company said.
MPT is using the latest 4×4 Multiple Input Output (MIMO) which uses twice the amount of receivers and transmitters in a phone from a tower to send and receive data, according to MPT.
The “cutting edge technology essentially leapfrogs the previous 4G/ LTE 2×2 MIMO, achieving double the speed,” it said.
“The highly advanced technology that powers MPT’s LTE+ network is the best in Myanmar,” said Mr Toshitake Amamiya, CEO of MPT-KSGM Joint Operations. “It offers customers lighting fast mobile data speeds unlike what was possible before, at the same charges…”
“Data users will feel the incredible difference as they download or send large files, play data-intensive games or stream high definition videos at just a fraction of the time through our boosted cell towers.”
MPT began rolling out its LTE+ network in Yangon, Mandalay and Naypyitaw in May after it was allocated blocks of 1.8 gigahertz spectrum by the government.
Rollout will begin in Bago, Taunggyi, Mawlamyaine, Monywa and Pathein in July and MPT is targeting to have its LTE+ network live in over 30 cities across the nation by September.
