Uber has appointed Daw Ei Phyu Lwin, effective Monday, July 3, as General Manager of its local operations, marking another major milestone in Myanmar.
The appointment comes nearly two months after it launched in May and reaffirms its commitment to create better earning opportunities for driver partners and safer, more convenient mobility for riders.
As a key member of Uber’s regional leadership and expansion team in the Southeast Asia region, Ei Phyu Lwin will be responsible for growing Uber’s newest business, in Myanmar, through strategic partnerships and continued investment in its people and product experience for both riders and drivers.
“Having left Myanmar as a child, I am thrilled to return to my home country and now be leading the team to make Myanmar Uber’s latest success story. I can already see the positive impact we are having on drivers’ lives, and it’s a privilege to be a part of this,” said Ei Phyu Lwin
She joins Uber from Yoma Bank, where she spent the past two years building their international trade finance business, with a special focus on growth, product development and capacity building during the evolution of Myanmar’s emerging financial sector.
She is passionate about developing the technological and business expertise for underprivileged communities and women.
“I see a lot of potential in the people here – for me, this is an opportunity to use everything I’ve learned to give aback to the people of Myanmar,” she added.

Ei Phyu holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business from the University of Technology Sydney, and a Masters in Finance from INSEAD.
